Harlequin #SYTYCW15 Top 10 Finalist! – OUT OF FOCUS

We all have dreams.

Hopes and aspirations.

Sometimes, if we’re incredibly lucky – or if we work really, really hard – we may be blessed enough to grab hold of it. Achieve it. Realize it.

Mine is almost within my grasp. So close I can graze that glowing, thrilling triumph with my finger tips.

#SYTYCW15 Top25 announcement and my picks for Top 10

With the official announcement of the Top 10 looming over the semi-finalist today, I thought I should take a second to give all my fellow contestants a huge—and congratulatory—round of applause. Not just the ones who have advanced with me, but the ones who entered all together.

Seriously – this contest is always stacked with some major talent, and this year was no exception. To have reached this point with my second complete contemporary romance novel (OUT OF FOCUS) is an accomplishment I hadn’t expected.

Having said that, of the Top 25, I thought it would be fun to play a game of Who’s Going to Make Top 10?

In no way am I saying that my selections are somehow more or better or whatnot. All of the Top 25 have serious chops or they wouldn’t be there. This is merely for fun and not meant to discourage or offend anyone.

So with no further ado, here are my picks for Top 10, in no particular order:

#SYTYCW15 Top 25 Semi-finalist!

Pinch me. I must be dreaming.

I have advanced to the next stage of the contest. As of Friday, I shipped off my full MS (manuscript) to Harlequin editors. From here they will read and review all twenty-five finalists to select their Top 10. Those lucky few will move on to the public/ live voting round.

The one to secure the most votes – wins the 2 book publishing contract.

Like – holy sh!t.

I’d entered my book OUT OF FOCUS on a whim, thinking more about the invaluable experience this would be, and all the great friends I would make. I honestly never expected to make it this far.

Obviously I hoped I would, and worked my little hiney off to wrangle up votes. But wow. Just wow. On Oct 20th the final and official Top 25 will be announced by Harlequin, after which point I will draft my top 10 picks.

Let’s see how accurate my predictions prove to be on November 10th 😉

Wattpad and Harlequin team up for So You Think You Can Write contest

I cannot begin to express how amazing the Wattpad community is. Such an invaluable platform that I wish existed when I was that young, painfully shy teen, writing in my “closet”, so to speak. Writing is such an introverted hobby that keeps you sequestered in doors, tangled up in plot and characters and dialogue. Though I find the craft rewarding and exciting, there’s something to be said about being able to connect with likeminded authors, discover new talent and develop a foundation of support/camaraderie.
Wattpad provides all of that and more! If you’re a writer, new, established or even a reader who has dreamt of writing but have yet to find their own voice, I highly suggest you join the ever expanding community of 40+ million strong!

Mr. Grey Will See You Now…

I’m not a fan of #FiftyShades.

I know. I know. I can hear the masses screaming at me in abject horror and utter disbelief. But, a lid for every pot, right?

So what the heck am I thinking by writing piece of fan fiction for a trilogy I haven’t so much as sniffed at? The challenge. And, perhaps, to gain a better perspective behind why Christian Grey has become the object of almost every woman’s fantasy. To quote famous restaurant critic, Giles Coren, “When you’re eating at a restaurant, always order the unusual or disgusting, because if the chef has any skills at all, he should be able to win you over and change your mind.” Now, I’m paraphrasing, but the sentiment applies here, as well.

I’d finished the first book, at least. So I had a decent foundation on which to build my scene. But, I didn’t want to touch on any threads from the current books on the market, so I’ve picked up after the trilogy closes.

****

Christian Grey is accustomed to always getting his way. A man with the world at his fingertips, there isn’t anything he can’t have. Or anyone he can’t conquer.

On the cusp of finalizing his divorce, he’s free to do as he pleases. And he has his eyes set on a prize too captivating to ignore. Her reluctance only adds to the intrigue. Christian Grey always gets his woman.

Laura McVeigh is no man’s doormat. And she isn’t accustomed to accepting failure. She’s a woman who’s fought and clawed to ascend the ranks in a field dominated by men. Making her a force to be reckoned with.

But in the world of commerce, money drives the bottom line and unfortunately she just doesn’t have enough of it.

A proposed merger with Grey Enterprises could solve all of her problems. All she has to do is…submit. Can Laura separate business from pleasure?

Does she even want to?

Jamie’s Top 40 Looks from Outlander Episode #107: THE WEDDING

I can’t get over how hooked I am on this show. April – get a move on! Here’ s a funny little post for any other die-hards, like me, who are stuck in the Outlander wastelands, eagerly awaiting the continuation of Season 1 to return in Spring 2015.

Candida's Musings

Before I begin, I have to warn you – given the hotness of the latest episode, I decided to write my captions accordingly. While I strive to be respectful of the actors, we’re all here to have a little fun. So in advance, I apologize to anyone I may offend. Now, down to business

As I state in my review, Outlander Episode #107: THE WEDDING is blazing hot. Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) sizzle together even when they aren’t touching. As the show progresses, the heat factor also increases.

Due to popular request, I turned my Top 30 Looks into a Top 40. Yes, I know 50 is better than 40 and 100 is better than 50, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the selections I made this week. I’m eager to hear from you regarding my cream of the crops. Because I was unable to limit my…

NaNoWriMo – The midway point. Keeping the motivation going, carving out the time and caring for newborn

We’ve reached November 15th. Good-freaking-God. You know, our parents likely have said to each of us that time will only continue to move faster as we get older. And when you’re young and sixteen, you think – “Hah! Sure. And you also said High School would be the best years of our lives, what a crock of s**t!”
